Ochoco Creek Cleanup Project 2022

Hey everyone – hope you are enjoying the nice weather since the snow is too crappy to play in.  Maybe you are dreaming of a nice warm day in March to pull on the old waders and go fishing for some trash!

We have the answer!  The Ochoco Creek Cleanup is a great way to get outside, enjoy friends, and do good in your community!

WHEN:

March 26th at high noon we will roll up our sleeves to keep our beloved Ochoco Creek looking great.  Yes, I know it is Spring Break, but if we go earlier we risk being snowed out and later we will have much higher water to contend with.

WHERE:

We will be meeting at Pioneer Park (Prineville) at the corner of Elm Street and NW 2nd Street at noon.  After forming four person teams and doing the safety brief you can head on out to your assigned section of the Creek. It should take you less than two hours to clean your assigned section.  And of course, we will meet again at Crooked Roots Brewing off at 420 N Main Street for happy hour prices on brews and free food.

A FEW DETAILS:

If you have a team of four or have someone you want to be paired with, please email Carol ahead of time with their names so she keep you together.  Don’t worry if you don’t have a team, we can help you with that.  Come meet some new friends!

If you have waders or are looking for waders to borrow, please email Carol  Each team should have two people with waders in the creek and two without on the banks.

Carol’s email is carolbenkosky@gmail.com

FOR YOUR SAFETY AND COMFORT:

Children under 18 must be with a parent or guardian, children under 12 can not be in the Creek.  There are lots of safe uplands to clean-up for families and the less adventuresome.

Bring warm clothes and be prepared for changing weather conditions.  The water should be low as they don’t expect to be flushing the Creek for irrigation season until after April 1st.  People on the bank may need to step into the water at times to get around obstacles on private land so waterproof boots are helpful.

We will provide bags, vinyl gloves, and pickers.  If you have waterproof fishing type gloves they can be good for reaching in shallow water.
