Crook County On The Move is here to help us live happy and healthy lives together! Let’s make this year YOUR year with these tips.
Set realistic goals
Most people want to change too much at one time. Focus on small changes that are sustainable for you. Once you have accomplished one goal, move on to another small goal. By the end of the year you will have accomplished so much!
Eat to nourish your body
One of the best ways to get healthy is to add more healthy foods to our daily meals instead of “dieting”. Let’s try adding more fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins and dairy to our meals. Limit processed foods, reduce salt, or cut the sugar intake back. It doesn’t seem like such a life overhaul if we add or eliminate a certain food slowly. As we get in the rhythm of it, let’s continue to improve our diet one step at a time. Why not attend the next Dish Up Prineville social or try some of Crook County On The Move’s favorite recipes at: https://crookcountyonthemove.org/be-nourished/our-favorite-recipes/?
Don’t forget to drink more water
Water is a critical, daily lifestyle choice that supports the health and function of every cell in our body. If you don’t like plain water, try infusing it with fresh fruit, cucumber or mint. For a refreshing change, try the hibiscus tea that was served during last spring’s Dish Up Prineville event. It hydrates our bodies and can help lower blood pressure!
Find exercise that you enjoy
Explore fun ways to Keep Moving every day. Try out Mobility for Life in January to get that body moving. Then join our Let’s Walk Together program in April where you can enjoy a walk with new friends!
Engage with friends
It’s important to find a workout buddy and set goals together. We function better with community around us, motivating and reminding us why we chose that New Year’s resolution in the first place. Crook County On The Move events are great ways to get together with old friends and meet new ones!
Have a bounce-back plan
Know that there will inevitably be times when we get off track, but resolve to start fresh at the next meal or the next day instead of waiting until the start of next week or even the start of next month! Be patient with yourself. Just keep working at your goal and eventually it can become second nature.
